Writing Short Stories

Hi everybody,

I haven’t been very active this year. Life has been crazy. I have a lot of things I’m trying to figure out. But, there’s one thing I finally have figured out:

It’s about time I really start writing short stories. Why? First of all, they don’t take as long to write as novels! One reason I’ve exhausted my energy on writing this year, is because I kept writing novels, or trying to revise old drafts. It all became too much information for my poor brain to old. Thus, this blog died a while, because I wasn’t writing; not writing, I didn’t feel like I could very well post advice about writing.

Second reason for writing short stories is, it’s a challenge for me. I tend towards longer stories and I tend to just keep going. Keeping a story to 20- pages is not something that comes naturally to me. Carving a character and moving a plot in that scant amount of pages is scary!

But, I want to try it. It’s time to give myself a bit of a challenge.

I have a few things I want to get out into the world, novels most of all. Before I can get those novels out though, I need to be seen. Noticed. Visible, where I’ve been mostly invisible. Getting short stories published is a tried-and-true way to lead to novel publication. I’m not saying I’ll be the next big thing, but to get my stories, my truths, out there, and maybe have them resonate with others?

That would be a dream come true.

So, it’s time to challenge myself. I have a swathe of ideas already; I have partially-written little chapter ones. Why not make them short stories? Why let them sit there, like my novels? Enough dusty papers (or .docx)! Time to get some new content rolling out of my fingertips!

I wish you well in all your writing endeavors!

Until next time,
